A Slash Above… The rarest slashers from across the world tracked down reviewed and rated…

Hi ladies and gentleman! (After 2021 hello all non binaries too!) My birth name was Luis Joaquin Oliverio Manuel González Ceballos. People who know me well, they call me crazy. I’m a guy with a lot of stories about the insane things I’ve done. My brother keeps on at me about writing a book. Maybe one day I will, it’d be a good movie 😂! I’ve been writing online since 1998. Initially I was reviewing survival horror games, but then I started with the slasher genre. You may have seen some of my reviews posted under the name Luisito Gonzalez or as Chris Tuohy to avoid racists. I have written for the IMDB, GQ and Hysteria Lives for a few years now. I’ve also written for a number of magazines and movie pages. Anyway, I always wanted to have my own website, but havin’ a pretty draining job, four kids and some kind of demanding girlfriend (I change them a lot.) I just never got around to it and to be fair, I never will. Writing on the Imdb does have its limitations; and so I thought I would turn to wordpress, where I can have my say and not worry too much about my non-existent skills in maintaining a website.

This is me trying to look cool, but failing recently:

IMG_E7295I have a couple of things to say, before we get going. I am not planning to do a full slasher website at the moment, because there are already a couple of brilliant ones on the web and I am not trying to do anything like my buddy Justin IMG_E6832over at Hysteria Lives But I do know that there are a lot of slasher movie fans out there and I am planning to review as many rarities as I can so that you can get a guide to ones that you may not have in your collection or the ones that you always wondered about.

If you have previously or recently read my reviews and are wondering what kind of deranged mind could be behind watching so many (mostly rubbish) slasher films, I will happily fill you in with DSC04923some info. Well I am from Andalucía originally and I have other latin blood from other countries also. I have lived in the UK since 1987 or 8. I had always been in and around North London, but now I am in Hampshire, in sunny Basingstoke where I work in IT Sales (it pays the bills.) I have been a huge fan of slasher films since I stayed up late one Halloween night and recorded the film of that title from TV. I was going through a phase of recording all kinds of films and collecting them, but up until that point I had always been too squeamish for horror. (I was a child at the time). After watching John Carpenter’s classic, it changed my life forever and I have been in love with the slasher genre ever since. I have spent over 30 years hunting out and watching genre pieces and in the days before IMDB and Amazon, I used to have to watch a movie before finding out if it actually was a slasher or not (80s VHS covers were deceptive) so I have seen quite my fair share of shoddy Horror films!

Aside from that, I am a massive Arsenal and Real Betis fan and I watch quite a few games. I was a season ticket holder for years, but not enough time now, so I go about 15-20 games a season. I like cooking, Spanish foods mainly, 4Dbut I quite like Russian dishes too. I speak some languages, Polish, Russian, Romanian and Bulgarian fluent and I like exploring Eastern Europe. I like survival horror (I collect with a similar passion to slashers!) and I own over 3500 non-slasher DVDs. When it comes to normal cinema, I like David Lynch, Pedro Almodovar, Scorcese – all the classics really. Put it this way, my taste in traditional cinema is nowhere near as audacious as my tastes in horror. When it comes to reading, I like non-fiction books about mafia godfathers (Check out Murder Machine about Roy Demeo’s crew) or I like historical accounts either about my home country or Russia from the Romanov era. Edvard Radzinski is my favourite author. I studied history of Europe and Evolution inIMG_7312 Uni, getting a masters and a degree with honours. By degree, I’m an evolutionary biologist😆 I love physics, evolution and quantum mechanics. Music? Well my music tastes are all over the place, first I was a rocker (Crue, Poison, Tigertailz, Heart Throbb Mobb, Indian Angel) then I was a Drum & Bass MC on Kool FM back in 93. Nowadays, I mostly only listen to reguetón and I love Nicky Jam, Flex, Makano, of course Maluma, Camilo, Sebastian Yatra, Daddy Yankee, Enrique, Miranda, and Cali y El Dandee. I can sing a bit too and got through the auditions of X Factor – how many people can say that?

Thanks for taking the time to find out about me and I sincerely hope that I can find you some more slasher movies to add to your collection.

  16. Hey Luisito,

My name is Matt Frame, director of ‘Camp Death III in 2D!’

Enjoyed your Friday the 13th Part III review and thought my film might be up your alley.

    It’s a comedy/horror parody of ‘Friday the 13th Part III 3D.’

We just completed the film and are about to launch our festival run.

We’d be honored if you would consider watching the first 5 minutes of the film and/or the trailer.

If you dig what you see then feel free to watch further.

Let me know if I can send you a password for our online screener.

    Many thanks!

  17. Your site is a heck of a resource and i’m excited to have found it. Would love to see you jump back into it, but life sometimes has other plans.

I hope you are healthy and happy. All the best!

  18. Thanks for your great site. I’ve been a fan for a while now. I have a suggestion for your site, but I think it’s a hard movie to track down. Intensive Care (1991) is a dutch slasher with lots of cheese and some nice gore. The acting and dialogue is bad, but in a good way. They even had George Kennedy on the set for just one day to replace him with another actor, with heavy make up, to play the central disfigured psycho. I put the IMDB and trailer below. Hope you one day find it.

    • I’ve seen it. The doctor crashes into a lorry and blows up, but he doesn’t die, he falls into a coma, right? Then like 5 years later he comes back and starts killing everybody. I used to have it on VHS, but the tape snapped. Do you own a copy on MP4? If you own a copy and can send me a copy, I’d be interested in reviewing it. You can use WeTransfer.com to send it. Good film, haven’t seen it for about 30 years
